About The Position

The MLL/EL Teacher/Coordinator will provide individualized or small group English as a Second Language instruction across SEEM Programs to English learner students with special needs. This role involves collaborating with content teachers and specialists to align instruction, planning and delivering lessons based on WIDA standards, and integrating technology. The position also includes administering language screeners and assessments, preparing for reclassification meetings, providing guidance to staff on EL issues, monitoring student progress, maintaining records, communicating with families, writing progress reports, attending IEP meetings, and organizing translations. The role requires passing a background check and adherence to equal opportunity employment principles.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree
  • DESE Certification in English as a Second Language (ESL) (Prek6) (5-12)
  • Special Education Certification
  • Experience working with ESL students who have disabilities is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized or small group English as a Second Language Instruction across SEEM Programs to English learner students with special needs in either a push-in, pull-out or coteaching model.
  • Collaborate and communicate with the EL student’s content teacher(s) and specialist(s) to align instruction and support to both the EL student’s English language development and their classroom instructional needs.
  • Plan and deliver lessons utilizing the WIDA standards, and deliver appropriate lessons for varying levels of English proficiency.
  • Demonstrate cultural proficiency and use effective and culturally relevant instructional practices.
  • Integrate technology into the classroom as an instructional tool and for personal productivity.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of World-class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA) standards and assist teachers and staff members in implementation.
  • Administer language screeners and participate in identifying and assessing ELs (benchmarking) as needed.
  • Administer annual Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State to State (ACCESS) test for EL students in accordance with guidelines.
  • Prepare for and assist with organization of EL student’s reclassification meetings for those ready to transition out of EL services.
  • Through consultation and/or professional development, provide guidance and support to SEEM staff around EL issues ranging from compliance, to implementation of policy, effective instructional practice, etc.
  • Monitor progress of English learners through annual ACCESS assessment.
  • Maintain student records and communicate with families and districts.
  • Write English learner progress reports each trimester.
  • Attend student IEP meetings and consult with teachers on English learner needs related to IEP goals and objectives.
  • Organize the translation of forms, reports, memos, letters, etc. as needed by program principals.
  • Other duties as assigned by the principals and/or Executive Director.
  • Must pass a background check including CORI and Fingerprints.
