About The Position

This role is part of Blue Origin’s Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Moon landers and related products. The engineer will join the Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) team, focusing on modeling and simulation for spacecraft operating from Earth to the Moon. The work includes software-in-the-loop simulations, hardware-in-the-loop labs, and on-vehicle simulations, with close collaboration across subsystems and spacecraft systems engineering to support subsystem boundaries, interfaces, and technical performance measures. The successful candidate will help develop multidisciplinary models and simulation capabilities for a multi-vehicle spacecraft simulation. They will apply technical expertise, leadership, sound technical judgment, and a commitment to quality to support safe human spaceflight. Passion for Blue Origin’s mission and vision is required. Applicants must meet the stated U.S. citizenship, permanent-residency, refugee, or asylum status requirement.

Requirements

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or Computer Science.
  • At least 2 years of software development and debugging experience, particularly in C/C++, Rust, and Simulink.
  • Experience modeling GN&C components and analyzing GN&C subsystem or component performance through simulation, testing, or analytical methods.
  • Familiarity with rigid body dynamics, fluid mechanics, and first-principles physics-based mathematical models.
  • Familiarity with testing frameworks and continuous integration pipelines, such as GitLab.
  • Experience with configuration management.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, a U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Strong debugging skills at the software/hardware boundary and familiarity with software verification approaches.
  • Experience developing software for hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing.
  • Familiarity with auto-coding Simulink to C++.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with verification and validation of aerospace simulations and models.
  • Familiarity with developing and maintaining simulation models, including plant physics, sensors, and actuators.
  • Familiarity with DO-178, DO-160, DO-254, or similar guidelines.
  • Experience using AI to augment workflows, processes, and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Develop tools needed to design, build, deploy, and support simulation infrastructure.
  • Develop and integrate multidisciplinary models for a multi-vehicle simulation using C/C++, Rust, Simulink, and NASA’s TRICK framework.
  • Deliver simulations collaboratively to customers to inform decisions and ensure requirements are met.
  • Work with engineers across disciplines to assist with and ensure model validation.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Basic and supplemental life insurance.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Short- and long-term disability.
  • 401(k) with company match of up to 5%.
  • Education Support Program.
  • Stock options for regular employees working at least 20 hours per week.
  • Paid time off of up to four weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours.
  • Up to 14 company-paid holidays.
  • Depending on role type and job level, employees may be eligible for benefits and bonuses based on individual contributions and company results or other factors.
