Mission Systems Software Chief Architect
About The Position
The Boeing Company is seeking a Mission Systems Software Chief Architect to support its proprietary Mission Systems software team in Berkeley, Missouri, within Boeing Defense, Space & Security. The role complements the Chief Software Architect already in place and focuses on defining and integrating processes and tooling for architecture development and software development activities. The Chief Architect coordinates work across teams throughout the software development lifecycle, including requirements decomposition, architecture definition, software development and testing, supplier technical oversight, integration of supplier and Boeing software and hardware, and documentation. The role supports complex problem-solving in a multi-contract, multi-program environment and requires adaptability, collaboration, customer focus, process improvement, and willingness to learn new technologies. The position leads the Mission Systems software office as Chief Software Engineer, focusing on software processes and tooling for product architecture and execution. It partners with stakeholders on system definition, requirements translation and traceability, software analyses and risk mitigation, code reviews, testing and verification, and alignment of products and processes with project plans and industry standards. The role also includes mentoring and coaching junior engineers. The position is expected to be 100% onsite in Berkeley, Missouri. It requires an active U.S. Secret security clearance and the ability to obtain access to Special Access Programs. The role is not contingent upon a program award. Relocation is available based on candidate eligibility.
Requirements
- Active U.S. Secret security clearance; a clearance active within the past 24 months is considered active.
- Ability to obtain access to Special Access Programs (SAP).
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- At least 5 years of experience with full-lifecycle software development, modeling, simulation, testing, and/or analysis using C, C++, C#, Python, Java, Ada, and/or Linux.
- At least 5 years of experience developing, documenting, and maintaining architectures, requirements, algorithms, interfaces, and designs for software systems.
- At least 5 years of experience with software development processes.
- Must meet U.S. export control compliance requirements as a U.S. Person.
- U.S. citizenship is required for the security clearance.

- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, engineering technology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and 14 or more years of related work experience; or a bachelor's degree and 18 or more years of directly related work experience; or 22 or more years of related, relevant experience.
- Experience in systems integration with systems engineering processes and procedures.
- Experience leading software-related projects or technical teams.
- Strong verbal and written communication, teaming, technical, and integration skills.
- Experience with embedded software architecture, development, or design.
- Experience developing mission systems software on aircraft platforms.
- Hands-on experience developing on Linux and Windows platforms.
- Experience with Agile software development and related processes.
- Familiarity with safety-critical software development processes.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Mission Systems software office as Chief Software Engineer, focusing on software processes and tooling in support of product architecture and execution flows.
- Partner with stakeholders to inform system definition and review the translation of system-level requirements into software requirements and models that meet customer, operational, and performance requirements, with traceability to design, code, and test artifacts.
- Review completion of software system-level analyses to identify risks, issues, and opportunities, and lead integration and deployment of mitigation actions throughout the software lifecycle.
- Lead code reviews to ensure alignment with requirements and standards.
- Lead monitoring and review of test completion, verification processes, and issue resolution for software systems.
- Review products and processes for alignment with project plans and industry standards by tracking and evaluating internal team and supplier performance.
- Mentor and coach junior engineers in software development.
- Coordinate software lifecycle activities across teams, including requirements decomposition, architecture definition, development and testing, supplier technical oversight, software and hardware integration, and documentation.
