About The Position

Founded in 1888, Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County (UGM-TC) is a Christian organization dedicated to helping homeless women, men, and families by providing love, hope, respect, and a new beginning. UGM-TC is funded by community generosity and offers a residency program to help individuals transition out of homelessness and develop life skills to become independent. This position specifically works in a building primarily for WOMEN. The Mission Support Mentor is responsible for supporting the guest operations of UGM-TC’s Overnight Shelter, Emergency Stabilization, and programs serving unaccompanied women and families. This role is ideal for individuals with customer service experience who want to make a difference, particularly those with prior experience in hospitality or retail as a front desk or customer service leader. The position involves checking guests in, utilizing computer applications, and serving and problem-solving for guests.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Demonstrates deep understanding of intergenerational trauma and poverty and the impact on adults and children; implements trauma informed de-escalation strategies and techniques focused on avoiding re-traumatization.
  • Demonstrates cultural competency through the ability to understand and effectively communicate with individuals from various cultural backgrounds.
  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with UGM-TC employees across departments at all levels of the organization, students, and parents.
  • Experience working with vulnerable adults and children in an emergency shelter environment or long-term supportive housing program.

Responsibilities

  • Provide check-in service and meet the needs of residents and guests.
  • Ensure the safety of UGM-TC facilities, employees, program participants, guests, and visitors, and execute daily responsibilities in key areas of operations.
  • Maintain professionalism and adhere to UGM-TC organizational and department specific Policies and Procedures.
  • Build safe, trusting, and respectful relationships with program participants and guests using a trauma-informed approach and exercising appropriate boundaries.
  • Protect the confidentiality, privacy, and dignity of program participants, guests, and visitors.
  • Collaborate with Security Patrol to respond to emergency situations and provide timely crisis intervention.
  • Manage the phone system, demonstrating proper phone etiquette and protocols, and serving as a resource of knowledge for guests.
  • Ensure the cleanliness, order, and organization of the front desk area and lobby, and replenish front desk forms and documents.
  • Monitor for adherence to facility safety and security policies, governing authorized access, and take appropriate actions for policy violations, including lockouts, system flags, and safe escort off premises.
  • Continuously monitor courtyards, dorm floors, lobby areas, and all entry and exit points of the Cox and Scott Walker buildings.
  • Monitor for contraband through observation and personal property searches upon entry, and conduct drug and alcohol screenings per policy.
  • Scan program participants and guests in and out of the residential program, and for meals and other on-campus services.
  • Complete daily shift reports and review Communication Logs, and verbally brief incoming personnel of incidents.
  • Inventory, dispense, and properly store consumable items, including cleaning supplies.
  • Actively participate in Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings as assigned.
  • Submit maintenance requests immediately upon observation or report of maintenance problems.
