About The Position

The Mission Operations Development group is looking for a Lead Mission Operations Engineer to join a growing team. This position is for a full time technical role located on our Gilbert, AZ campus. The successful candidate will be expected to provide mission operations support to NGSS Satellite programs. They will lead on orbit script and procedure development efforts based off of operational procedures, test on orbit operational products using simulators and resolve discrepancies. The role also involves leading the development and test of command procedures, telemetry pages, and other products derived from vendor provided documentation. Modifications to existing operations procedures to incorporate lessons learned from in-flight performance and development of new procedures as required are also key responsibilities. The candidate will support system development activities such as requirements management, architecture development, integration and test and formal program milestones. They will work with systems engineers to develop operational documentation for use during on-orbit checkout and commissioning of satellites. Participation in mission readiness activities including mission rehearsals, mission timeline development, and post launch test development, as well as on orbit anomaly resolution efforts, is expected. The role includes providing status reporting through both the functional and program reporting branches and providing additional support to multiple programs in the same product line. Maintaining standards associated with the established Integrated/Developmental Operations functional group processes and supporting internal and external customer meetings through proficient verbal and documented (MS PowerPoint, MS Word, MS Excel) communications are also required. May require shift work and travel ~ 20% of the time for simulation/rehearsal and launch support. Candidate will require a polygraph interview to participate in rehearsals and launch activities.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related discipline and 8 years’ experience; 6 years with Masters; 0 years with PhD
Prior experience conducting on-orbit mission operations or resolving satellite/ground system anomalies.
Requires an active Top-Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) clearance at time of application.
Experience with at least one S/C Subsystem (ADCS/GNC, command and data handling, communications, power, Thermal, flight software, orbital planning and dynamics, etc.)
System engineering experience or significant classwork in system engineering or system design
Experience writing technical documents for internal or external customers
Outstanding verbal and written communications skills, including ability to make persuasive presentations to external customers at milestone reviews.
Experience with or writing of PERL script.

Ability to work within a group of diversified individuals with varying backgrounds to achieve mission success.
Support of readiness activities to include; Mission Readiness Tests (MRTs), Mission Rehearsals (MRs), Day In The Life (DITL) and daily operations testing.
Experience with spacecraft launch campaigns
Experience with satellite ground systems and simulators
Familiarity with training and certification programs for space system operators
Experience working on government systems and/or government process environment
