About The Position

The Mining Equipment Operator uses a variety of heavy equipment to mine and transport clay and other raw material. Equipment may include scrapers, dozers, excavators, mine haul trucks, backhoes, tractors, road graders, water wagons, forklifts, and line trucks. The operator works independently with limited supervision, follows safety rules and company procedures, and may work with Plant Maintenance personnel to learn maintenance skills. The position is based in Ochlocknee, Georgia, in the Mining department and reports to the Mining Supervisor. The listed hire rate is $26.09.

Requirements

Meet Oil-Dri assessment requirements.
Previous experience operating heavy-duty equipment.
Demonstrated ability to operate heavy equipment safely.
Ability to service and operate mine equipment such as haul trucks, backhoes, excavators, tractors, bulldozers, and road graders.
Ability to read, comprehend, and act on product specifications, SOPs, PWIs, AIQ processes, and similar documents.
Ability to read mining maps as necessary.
Demonstrated ability to perform detail-oriented work.
Ability to work safely and independently with limited supervision.
Good communication skills, including ability to hear radio communications.
Physical endurance to operate geared equipment and perform heavy physical labor.
Ability to walk and work on uneven, rocky, or sloped terrain and to climb ladders, stairs, and inclines while carrying tools.
Ability to lift 50 pounds frequently.
Ability to perform the role while wearing required PPE, which may include safety glasses, hearing protection, a dust mask, and protective coveralls, in hot or cold, dusty, and loud industrial conditions.
Must meet all physical requirements of the position.

Nice To Haves

Valid Commercial Driver’s License is desired; a valid commercial driver’s license may be required.
Maintenance background is helpful.

Responsibilities

Operate heavy equipment safely to mine and transport clay and other raw materials.
Count and record the quantity of raw material removed and transported to various locations.
Record material mined and equipment operating hours.
Lubricate, service, and perform routine maintenance on equipment, including forklifts, line trucks, and heavy-duty equipment.
Track and file daily inspection forms.
Keep work areas clean and free of clutter.
Follow safety rules, regulations, procedures, and required PPE practices.
Read mining maps as necessary and follow product specifications, SOPs, PWIs, AIQ processes, and similar documents.
Work with Plant Maintenance personnel to learn maintenance skills.
Participate in improvement activities and act in accordance with WE CARE and Oil-Dri values.
Perform other duties and actions as assigned to support company goals, processes, and procedures.
