About The Position

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mine Planner at our operation in Walvis Bay, Namibia. The Mine Planner integrates planning, design, scheduling, and performance analysis to support operational delivery, enable decision-making, and ensure compliance with Namibian mining, safety, and environmental regulations in a remote desert operating environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering in Mining Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
  • Three to eight or more years’ experience in open pit mining operations, preferably copper mining.
  • Demonstrated experience in short- and medium-term mine planning.
  • Practical exposure to drill and blast, load, and haul operations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
  • High attention to detail and planning accuracy
  • Effective communication and cross-functional collaboration
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong accountability and results orientation

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in remote or environmentally constrained operating environments is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Develop daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual mine plans aligned to approved production targets and life-of-mine strategy.
  • Prepare accurate short-, medium-, and long-term mining schedules to support operational continuity and cost control.
  • Monitor plan versus actual production performance, analyse deviations, and update plans to maintain schedule adherence and production accuracy.
  • Ensure mine plans are aligned with approved budgets, forecasts, and resource constraints.
  • Design and optimise open pit layouts, haul roads, waste dumps, and mining sequences in line with geotechnical and safety constraints.
  • Apply pit optimisation and sequencing methodologies to maximise ore recovery and minimise dilution.
  • Ensure all mine designs comply with approved geotechnical, safety, and operating parameters.
  • Work closely with geology, survey, and production teams to translate geological models into practical and executable mining plans.
  • Provide planning support to drilling and blasting, loading, and hauling activities to enable efficient execution of production schedules.
  • Support operations in achieving production targets through accurate plans and timely planning inputs.
  • Integrate safety, health, and environmental requirements into all mine plans and designs.
  • Identify planning-related operational and safety risks and develop mitigation measures.
  • Support site safety initiatives, statutory compliance, and environmental management requirements in line with Namibian copper mining standards.
  • Optimise equipment utilisation and fleet productivity to achieve targeted cost per tonne mined.
  • Support budgeting and cost forecasting through accurate planning and productivity assumptions.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce waste mining and improve overall mining efficiency.
  • Compile accurate daily, weekly, and monthly planning and production reports.
  • Perform production reconciliation and variance analysis between planned and actual performance.
  • Provide clear, data-driven recommendations to improve planning accuracy and operational performance.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve mining methods, productivity, and planning systems.
  • Support the adoption of best practices, new technologies, and continuous improvement initiatives within the planning function.
