About The Position

The Senior Mine Engineer is responsible for leading mine planning, design, and optimization activities to support safe, efficient, and cost-effective mining operations. This role plays a key part in short- and long-term planning, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring alignment between operational execution and strategic mine objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain in Nevada preferred
  • Minimum 10 years of mining experience, with strong exposure to planning and operations
  • Experience in open pit, underground, or both (depending on operation)
  • Proficiency in mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan, MineSight, Surpac)
  • Strong understanding of drill & blast, geotechnical considerations, and mine economics
  • Knowledge of U.S. mining regulations (MSHA standards)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Leadership and mentoring skills
  • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, remote site environment
  • High attention to detail with a focus on safety and efficiency
  • Strategic thinking with hands-on operational awareness

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of short-term, mid-term, and long-term mine plans
  • Design and optimize open pit and/or underground mine layouts, including haul roads, ramps, stopes, and sequencing
  • Ensure all mine plans comply with safety standards, regulatory requirements, and environmental guidelines
  • Collaborate closely with geology, operations, processing, and maintenance teams to align plans with production targets
  • Monitor mine performance and reconcile actual results against plan; identify variances and implement improvements
  • Conduct economic evaluations, cost analysis, and productivity assessments
  • Oversee drill & blast designs and provide technical guidance to operations teams
  • Mentor and supervise junior mine engineers and technical staff
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and life-of-mine planning activities
  • Implement and maintain mine planning software and systems
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and operational excellence programs
