About The Position

Located at the Barrie campus, supporting all locations, and reporting to the Executive Director, Student Success, the incumbent will assist in the coordinating, implementing, monitoring, and evaluation of Georgian’s military-connected campus strategy. The incumbent is responsible for outreach to military-connected current and prospective students, coordinating on- and off-campus military-connected student activities, helping military-connected students navigate the postsecondary landscape and attending military-connected student events. The role also supports engagement with internal collaborators, and with Canadian Armed Forces partners and defence and defence adjacent committees and working groups.

Requirements

  • Successfully completed a two-year postsecondary diploma or a CAF training equivalent such as Officer Development Period (DP2)
  • A minimum of three years’ lived experience in a military connected environment
  • Familiarity with and knowledge of provincial postsecondary education guidelines, Department of National Defence, Canadian Armed Forces, and Veterans Affairs Canada
  • Proven interpersonal communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to work with a diverse team of contributors and college partners
  • Individual must have competency in MS Office based software: Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work majority of time on campus and at community events

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated experience working in adult training institutions and instructional experience is asset

Responsibilities

  • Outreach to military connected students at various stages of their academic journey, from applicant to alumni, offering support and resources
  • Collecting, analyzing and disseminating student data as it relates to the college’s definition of a military-connected student, including records management and student referrals in Navigate360
  • Acting as a liaison and resource in the planning, development and implementation of programming designed to encourage recruitment and retention of military-connected students
  • Assessing and, where required, triaging and escalating complex and sensitive student concerns to the appropriate resources and monitoring the Military-Connected college mailbox
  • Produces, and provides input into the development of marketing and promotional material (website/video/social media), student portal and web content supporting the military connected strategy
  • Investigate military occupational job standards, and professional training, in support of program-specific Prior Learning Assessment Recognition (PLAR) requests
  • Work collaboratively with academic colleagues to facilitate post-secondary access for MCC leaners, including NCM STEP program support, advocacy and advisement for flexible admissions pathways, MCC learner profile and needs awareness, etc.
  • Acting as the first point of contact and subject matter expert for various college-wide committees to represent military-connected student experiences and needs
  • Acting as the first point of contact and subject matter expert for employees when there are questions or guidance required with respect to military matters
  • Acting as the first point of contact and subject matter expert for potential and current military-connected students, providing academic and student services information that aligns with Georgian’s Promise to Military-Connected students
  • Conducting outreach to other colleges and institutions to continually innovate and evolve the military-connected strategy
  • Liaise with key operational Canadian Armed Forces contacts to support collaboration and information gathering. Responsible for contact management, CRM record keeping and drafting executive briefing notes
  • Act in an advisement capacity to internal team members regarding CAF processes, Military expectations, processes, etc. and developing and conducting military-connected workshops for the Georgian community as required
  • Supporting visits from VIP guests (Base Commander, Government ministers) connected to the Canadian Armed Forces
  • Attending on and off-campus recruitment events and networking with military external representatives
  • Coordinates and implements college-wide, high profile events including Remembrance Day ceremony, and support outreach efforts at Base locations and other related promotional events.
