About The Position

Provides migrant students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enables students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society. Ensures the delivery of instructional and support services to meet the needs of students whose migratory lifestyle interrupts and interferes with the continuity and successful completion of their education.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited university
  • At least one year of student teaching or approved internship
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and responds to questions from administrators, peers, students, parents, and the general public.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of subjects assigned.
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program.
  • Ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the delivery of supplemental instructional and support services available through the Migrant Education Program at the campus level.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of migrant students assigned.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  • Provide/Coordinate supplemental RLA and/or Math instruction to eligible migratory students.
  • Assist and Comply with the established Migrant Late Entry/Early Withdrawal Policy.
  • Disseminate information, data and pending issues related to the Migrant Education Program at campus staff meetings.
  • Assist with the recruitment and identification of migrant students at the campus level by disseminating and administering the Migrant Family Survey.
  • Coordinate meetings for preparing learning packets aligned to district curriculum that will assist migrant students with the completion of course work that is incomplete.
  • Conduct individual migrant student conferences regularly to review academic progress and determine appropriate interventions.
  • Assist the coordination of individual counseling on an “as needed” basis for all migrant students.
  • Coordinate college and university visitation trips for college and career awareness.
  • Coordinate and provide before/during/after school STAAR test preparation and tutoring for eligible migratory students.
  • Complete Priority for Service Individual Plans and Progress Reviews (1 per semester).
  • Assist with preparing migrant students to take the TSIA2 exam by providing reviews, tutoring, and registration by coordinating with campus GO Center.
  • Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities, as assigned.
  • Sponsor outside activities approved by campus principal.
  • Be a positive role model for students, support mission of school district.
  • Assume responsibility of the Migrant Club Sponsor.
  • Create classroom/office space environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist and maintain books, equipment, and other instructional and support materials.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  • Communicate with parents, teachers, and administrators and other school staff for the purpose of improving migrant student academic performance.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Attend and participate in migrant department meetings and special events as assigned.
  • Exercise professional judgment in absences; be punctual to work, meetings, and appointments.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor/ Title 1 Part C Administrator.
