About The Position

Assist students in the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, physical, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation. This role involves meeting and instructing assigned classes, using data to plan a program of study that meets student needs and follows district/state curriculum, and creating a conducive learning environment. The teacher will employ various instructional techniques, maintain open communication with students and parents, and cooperate with staff. They will strive to improve professional competence, assist administration, assess student accomplishments, and ensure student health and safety. The position also includes participating in the identification and program planning for children with disabilities, working with various personnel to develop IEPs, providing special education services, training educational staff, serving as a resource to parents, maintaining records, collaborating with general education teachers for curriculum accessibility, and participating in behavior support plan design and implementation. Other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to read English and comprehend complex technical language.
  • Ability to write memoranda, correspondence, lessons plans, reports, and student achievement summaries in English.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written or oral instructions in English.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents and community.
  • Completion of a higher education Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in education/teaching.
  • A valid teaching license issued by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission with proper Special Education Endorsement.
  • Possess or be able to obtain a HQT status commensurate with assignment.

Responsibilities

  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and times as designated.
  • Use data to plan a program of study that meets the interests, needs, and abilities of the students and follows established curriculum as written by the district and the state and promotes independence and achievement.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the supervisor.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent within the limitations of the location and resources provided by the district.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning the academic and behavioral progress of the students.
  • Cooperate and collaborate with other members of the staff.
  • Attend staff meetings and other meetings as required.
  • Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules of the school and district.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and maintain such records as required by law and district policy.
  • Take all reasonable precautions to provide for the health and safety of the students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Participate in the identification (assessment) and program planning needs for children with disabilities.
  • Work with school, Education Service District personnel, parents, and outside agencies in developing IEPs.
  • Provide special education for identified students via direct service delivery, teacher consultation, materials adaptation, etc.
  • Provide training to educational staff (teachers, specialists, assistants, etc.)
  • Serve as a resource to parents of students with disabilities.
  • Maintain records, reports, and documentation as required by the District.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure curriculum is accessible and all accommodations and modifications are implemented.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of behavior support plans for students with IEPs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
