About The Position
Southern Highlands Preparatory School is seeking a Middle School Science Teacher to join their team. This role involves equipping students with 21st-century skills for academic and real-world success in a supportive environment. The curriculum balances traditional and progressive education, enriched with subjects beyond the core to educate the whole child. Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Science, or a related field
- Strong knowledge of educational best practices and age-appropriate instruction
- Excellent communication, instructional, and classroom management skills
- Creative, energetic, and well-organized educator with high ethical standards
- Genuine passion for teaching and supporting student growth
- Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
- Frequently walk, stand, sit, squat, stoop, reach, kneel, rise from the floor, twist, listen, read, write, and speak the English language.
- Often carry, lift, use repetitive or fine hand movements, and occasionally push, pull, or bend.
- Regularly hear and use clear vision with or without correction.
Nice To Haves
- Valid teaching certificate preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience preferred
- Experience teaching middle school science
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction in life, earth, and physical science while differentiating lessons to meet the diverse needs of learners.
- Create a safe, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment that promotes student success and scientific inquiry.
- Regularly assess student progress, maintain open communication with families and colleagues, and collaborate with school staff to support student achievement.
- Prepare instructional materials.
- Maintain laboratory safety and equipment.
- Keep accurate student records.
- Support school-wide initiatives.
- Participate in ongoing professional development.
- Foster curiosity, encourage critical thinking, and inspire a passion for science through hands-on, inquiry-based learning.
- Deliver engaging, well-structured science lessons that support student learning and growth.
- Provide personalized instruction to meet individual student needs and promote interactive learning.
- Develop and distribute educational materials such as notes, summaries, assignments, and assessments.
- Assess student progress, provide timely feedback and grades, and maintain accurate records.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and positive classroom environment.
- Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and school leadership to support student success.
- Participate actively in school meetings, events, and professional development opportunities.
- Plan and facilitate dynamic educational activities both inside and outside the classroom.
- Address student behavioral concerns promptly and compassionately, reporting serious concerns as needed.
