Family Life Academy Charter School (FLACS) is a network of high-performing charter schools in the South Bronx. FLACS, together with the Latino Pastoral Action Center and parents, aims to create conditions for self-empowerment for all its K-12 students to excel academically, take responsibility for their own learning, and affirm human values. The school is seeking dynamic educators who value collaboration, believe education is activism, want to work in an environment where academic excellence is the norm, believe young people can be leaders, and desire to work in a place where their skills will be nurtured through embedded professional development. Under the supervision of the School Principal, the Science Teacher engages students in learning to develop an in-depth understanding of content and key skills such as communication, collaboration, inquiry, problem-solving, and flexibility. Using a shared FLACS Network Science curriculum aligned with the NYS Science Learning Standards and the New York State Next Generation Learning Standards for Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science and Technical Subjects, the Science Teacher will design daily lesson plans that are responsive to the diverse learning needs of all students, including general education, students with disabilities, and English Language Learners, while holding all students to high academic expectations. The Science Teacher is primarily responsible for teaching one grade level but may be required to teach additional preparations.
