Galesburg-Augusta Middle School is a small school with a strong family feel. Our enrollment averages 336 students and approximately 40 staff. Our families appreciate the level to which our teachers and staff get to know our students and provide individual supports. Requirements

  • Must meet all State of Michigan administrator continuing education requirements (or on track to complete).
  • A valid Michigan teaching certificate & Michigan administrator certificate
  • Minimum of four years teaching experience, preferably in middle school grades 5-8
  • Ability to demonstrate how data has been used to direct instruction and/or improve behavior
  • Proven record of collaborative team leadership
  • Strong curriculum knowledge, including implementing literacy and math strategies.
  • Provide for all aspects of instructional leadership and supervision of programs and staff
  • Effectively manage communication with school staff, parents, and larger school community
  • Be visible and available to students, staff and parents

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree or higher preferred, with course work background in educational administration/leadership.
  • Successful administrative experience at the secondary level preferred
  • Experience in staff development, Multi-tiered Systems of Support, Trauma Informed, Professional Learning Communities, School Improvement Process and Behavior Management preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the operation of the school in compliance with the Board of Education policy and the direction of the Superintendent.
  • Leads the school in advancing student achievement to include closing the achievement gap between student learners.
  • Provides leadership in the assessment of needs of students, staff and parents and in the development of appropriate educational programs and student activities.
  • Maintains student conduct, enforces discipline in compliance with district procedures and accords due process to students.
  • Directs a balanced program of extra-curricular activities; assesses needs for activities; participates in local and state organizations in order to regulate the program.
  • Responsible for overall personnel, fiscal and maintenance administration in the building.
  • Responsible for supervision and performance evaluations of staff.
  • Assists teachers in classroom management strategies and provides instructional leadership to all staff.
  • Promotes a positive school climate and develops collaborative relationships with staff, students and parents.
  • Middle school evening events in collaboration with the Athletic Director and Leadership Team.
