About The Position

Young Scholars Charter School (YSCS) is a free, lottery-based, open-enrollment charter school in Philadelphia serving students in grades 5-8. Its mission is to provide a personalized middle school education that challenges, engages, and prepares students to pursue their dreams and lead a life of active citizenship, inspiring them to achieve, serve, and succeed. YSCS fosters a structured and nurturing community with comprehensive programming and a rigorous academic curriculum to build self-motivated citizens, eager learners, and strong leaders prepared for high school, college, career, and the world. The school emphasizes project-based learning, high-quality instruction, rigorous and culturally relevant curriculum, extensive planning, strong instructional execution, and common skill-based assessments to develop academic proficiency and social-emotional skills. YSCS is seeking a passionate Middle School Math Teacher for 7th-grade students for the 2026/27 school year. The school features a reimagined schedule for teacher sustainability and student benefit, including a teacher-to-student ratio of 85-100 students with an average class size of 25, teachers responsible for one grade and one content area, 120 minutes of daily prep time, common planning time, and opportunities for all staff to influence school direction. The educational environment includes a dual homeroom partner structure, regular coaching by an instructional leader, and extensive elective and sports offerings.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and provide excellent instruction, making every minute count in your classroom
  • Develop detailed lesson plans, materials, homework assignments, and assessments based on state standards and school-wide goals for student achievement
  • Punctual to work
  • Submits lesson plans on time
  • Provide differentiated learning opportunities to support each student’s academic growth
  • Set and reinforce clear expectations for student engagement
  • Continuously improve based on feedback and coaching from school leaders
  • Collaborate with other teachers to increase student engagement and achievement
  • Reward positive student engagement and hold students accountable using school-wide systems
  • Engage with family members regularly and participate in school-wide family engagement activities including phone calls to family members and school-based meetings with families
  • Willing to perform other duties as assigned
