About The Position

Sun Valley Academy is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Middle School Math Teacher for the 7th-8th grade. The ideal candidate is passionate about mathematics, committed to fostering strong foundational skills, logical reasoning, and confidence in problem-solving among students. This role involves providing engaging instruction aligned with Arizona State Standards, differentiating lessons to meet diverse learning needs, and utilizing school-adopted systems for curriculum, instruction, and assessment. The teacher will employ data-driven instruction, integrate technology, foster mathematical discourse, and establish a structured classroom environment. Responsibilities also include implementing student goals from 504 Plans and IEPs, participating in professional learning, documenting student behavior and attendance, reflecting on instructional practices, supervising students, maintaining records, and participating in school events and parent conferences.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Minimum one (1) year of teaching experience
  • Strong knowledge of middle school mathematics content (6th-8th grade standards).
  • Ability to clearly explain abstract mathematical concepts in developmentally appropriate ways.
  • Skilled in analyzing assessment data to inform instruction.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret curriculum guides, assessment data, and instructional materials.
  • Write in a coherent and professional manner.
  • Present mathematical concepts clearly to students and families.
  • Knowledge of basic office procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mathematics instruction aligned to Arizona State Standards for middle school.
  • Prepare and deliver engaging, grade-level appropriate math lessons in areas such as ratios and proportional reasoning, expressions and equations, geometry, statistics, and pre-algebra concepts.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs, abilities, and interests of middle school students.
  • Utilize school-adopted systems of practice for curriculum, instruction, and assessment including, but not limited to: Beyond Textbooks, Spalding (as applicable for cross-curricular literacy support), data submission processes, and testing protocols.
  • Use data-driven instruction to monitor student mastery and adjust pacing, reteach concepts, and provide targeted intervention or enrichment.
  • Assess student progress toward learning targets and provide timely, constructive feedback to students, parents/guardians, and administration.
  • Integrate instructional technology, digital platforms, and mathematical tools to enhance student engagement and understanding.
  • Foster mathematical discourse by encouraging students to explain reasoning, justify solutions, and collaborate effectively.
  • Establish consistent classroom routines and procedures that promote a structured, respectful, and productive learning environment.
  • Effectively implement student goals outlined in 504 Plans and IEPs.
  • Participate in grade-level and school-wide professional learning activities.
  • Document and proactively address issues related to student behavior and/or attendance.
  • Reflect continually on instructional practices to improve student achievement in mathematics.
  • Supervise students in accordance with state laws and school policies.
  • Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by the school and law.
  • Participate in school-wide events, meetings, and parent conferences.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.
