About The Position

Provide classroom, targeted instruction for students in language arts, math and science. This is a licensed, temporary summer position at Chehalem Valley Middle School. Internal applicants only. The position runs from August 3, 2026 through August 20, 2026, with Monday through Thursday for student facing duties and one professional development/prep day. All dates, hours, and employment are contingent on enrollment and grant funding.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of specific curriculum content for subject area.
  • Skilled in lesson plan development, implementation of learning activities, behavior management, assessment, and teaching to individual student skill levels.
  • Demonstrated ability in classroom organization and behavior management.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing and build relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Understanding of cultural and social issues affecting diverse students and their families, and students and families experiencing poverty.
  • Successful experience teaching middle school students.
  • Completion of a higher education Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in education/ teaching license valid for 6-8 th grades with an English Language Arts, Math or Reading endorsement.
  • A valid teaching license issued by the Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission with proper 6-8 th grades with a English Language Arts, Math, Science or Reading endorsement.
  • Ability to read English and comprehend complex technical language.
  • Ability to write memoranda, correspondence, lessons plans, reports, and student achievement summaries in English.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-to-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out detailed, but basic, written, or oral instructions in English.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisor(s), staff, students, parents, and community.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to communicate with Spanish speaking students and parents preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and times as designated.
  • Plan a program of study that meets the interests, needs, and abilities of the students and follow established curriculum as written by the district and the state.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the supervisor.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent within the limitations of the location and resources provided by the district.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents concerning the academic and behavioral progress of the students.
  • Cooperate with other members of the staff.
  • Attend staff meetings and other meetings as required.
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules of the school and district.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and maintain such records as required by law and district policy.
  • Take all reasonable precautions to provide for the health and safety of the students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Analyze student performance test results and create strategies to support students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
