About The Position

School in the Square is seeking a dedicated Middle School Humanities Special Education Teacher for grades 6-8. This role is part of a 'relationships-first' philosophy, focusing on engaging, educating, and empowering students, families, and team members. The teacher will report to the Principal and collaborate with the School Leadership Team to ensure high academic standards and address the social-emotional needs of all students. The ideal candidate believes all students can thrive in a challenging, nurturing, and supportive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Skilled in current teaching methods and educational pedagogy.
  • Proficient in interactive, hands-on, creative learning.
  • Experience using technology to support instruction.
  • Experience using assessment to drive instruction.
  • Knowledge of co-teaching strategies.
  • Knowledge of ELL strategies.
  • Strategic, solutions-focused thinker with strong communication and planning skills.
  • Strong relationship builder.
  • Familiar with restorative practices.
  • Strong believer in anti-racism education, culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy, trauma-informed practices.
  • Self-reflective with the capacity to accept and implement feedback to improve instruction.
  • Graduate of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or relevant content area.
  • Current possessor of a valid New York State Teaching Certification or willing to enroll in a New York State Teaching Certification Program and obtain such Certification within two years.
