About The Position

School in the Square (S2) is seeking dedicated, mission-aligned Middle School Special Education Teachers for grades 6-8. This role is part of the founding campus at S2, located in Washington Heights, which emphasizes a culture of care leading to achievement. The program is designed around students' personal interests and learning styles, aiming to equip each student with the tools and support to become lifelong learners. The teacher will report to the Principal and collaborate with the School Leadership Team (SLT) to ensure high academic standards and address students' social-emotional needs. The ideal candidate believes all students can thrive in a challenging, high-quality, nurturing, and supportive learning environment.

Requirements

  • Skilled in current teaching methods and educational pedagogy.
  • Proficient in interactive, hands-on, creative learning.
  • Skilled in the use of technology to support instruction in all areas.
  • Knowledge of co-teaching strategies.
  • Knowledge of ELL strategies.
  • A strategic, solutions-focused thinker with strong communication and planning skills.
  • A strong relationship builder who gets personal fulfillment by teaching and coaching students.
  • Familiar with restorative practices.
  • A strong believer in anti-racism education, culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy, and trauma-informed practices.
  • Self-reflective with the capacity to accept and implement feedback to improve instruction.
  • A graduate of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education or relevant content area.
  • Current possessor of a valid New York State Teaching Certification or willing to enroll in a New York State Teaching Certification Program and obtain such Certification within two years.
