About The Position

Newton Country Day School is seeking a passionate, energetic, and encouraging Middle School Field Hockey Coach to lead its middle school team during the Fall 2026 season. This is an excellent opportunity for a coach who enjoys working with young athletes and is committed to developing both athletic skills and personal confidence in a supportive, mission-driven environment. The ideal candidate will create a positive team culture where student-athletes are encouraged to grow through teamwork, sportsmanship, and skill development while fostering a lifelong appreciation for the sport of field hockey.

Requirements

  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to create a positive and development-focused learning environment for student-athletes of all ability levels.
  • Valid driver's license with the ability and willingness to drive school vehicles.
  • Commitment to sportsmanship, character development, and student-athlete well-being.
  • Ability to pass all required background checks and meet school employment requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous field hockey coaching or competitive playing experience preferred.
  • Experience coaching or working with middle school-aged athletes is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead engaging practices focused on fundamental field hockey skills, game strategy, and player development.
  • Coach all middle school practices and games while aligning with the philosophy and goals of the overall field hockey program.
  • Foster an inclusive, supportive, and positive team environment that emphasizes confidence, effort, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
  • Mentor student-athletes of varying experience and skill levels, helping each player reach their individual potential.
  • Supervise student-athletes during practices, competitions, and team activities while maintaining a safe environment.
  • Communicate effectively with student-athletes, families, the Athletics Department, and school administration.
  • Safely transport student-athletes by driving school vehicles to practices and competitions, when required.
  • Uphold and model the values of Sacred Heart education and the mission of Falcon Athletics.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
