About The Position

JV Field Hockey Coach reports to the Athletic Director. The schedule involves daytime practice Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, with home and away games/matches on Wednesday and Saturday. The schedule may vary according to departmental and Academy needs. The salary range is $3,575 - $4,370, based on relevant experience. This is a Salaried, Seasonal Part-Time position within the Faculty Athletics department, located on-campus. The purpose of this position is to instruct or coach teams and individual students in the fundamentals of sports, demonstrate techniques and methods of participation, and potentially evaluate athletes' strengths and weaknesses for recruitment or to improve technique for competition.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Has played sport in high school or college or has reached a level of expertise in the sport as an adult through participation, coaching, or a formal coaching development program.
  • Possess excellent management, leadership, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop and maintain collegial relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students by building trust and credibility.
  • Respect for diversity of identities and experiences, an orientation toward equity and inclusion, and cultural competency in all aspects of Academy life.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills as well as a strong customer focus.
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations and adopt effective courses of action.
  • Ability to engage positively with students, employees, and guests.
  • Self-motivated and independent.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including extended hours, weekends, and evenings.

  • Proficient in MS Office.
  • Willingness and ability to learn additional applications as needed.
  • High degree of organizational skills with the ability to be flexible and multi-task with accuracy.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written directions, maintain a professional demeanor and restraint at all times, including stressful situations.
  • Successfully complete upon hire a criminal background check (reviewed every 5 years; every 2 years for Crew).
  • Clean driving record upon hire (reviewed annually).

Nice To Haves

  • College degree preferred.
  • Experience in an academic institution preferred.
  • Experience working with adolescents in an educational setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and conduct practice sessions in collaboration with the Head Coach.
  • Provide training direction, encouragement, and motivation to prepare athletes for games, competitive events, and/or tours.
  • Keep abreast of changing rules, techniques, technologies, and philosophies relevant to their sport.
  • Adjust coaching techniques based on the strengths and weaknesses of athletes.
  • Instruct individuals or groups in sports rules, game strategies, and performance principles.
  • Evaluate athletes' skills and review performance records to determine their fitness and potential.
  • Represent the program in a professional manner and within the bounds of good sportsmanship and values.
  • Transport athletes to games using an academy van or minibus.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
