About The Position

The University of Maine at Farmington (UMF) is seeking a spirited, driven Assistant Coach to energize its Field Hockey program. This role involves assisting the Head Coach in various aspects of program management, including practices, game strategies, team culture, recruitment, player development, and day-to-day operations. The position requires a strong understanding of field hockey, excellent communication skills, and the ability to serve as a positive role model for student-athletes. The field hockey season runs from August 15th through November 15th, with a non-traditional fall season from March 15th through May 15th.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent
Valid driver's license (in good standing, based on UMS standards)
Availability for practices and weekend competitive schedule
Experience with the sport skills and principles of field hockey to teach and provide feedback
Demonstrated computer proficiency and knowledge
Demonstrated a team-oriented culture and collaboration
Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving
The ability to communicate effectively
Deep understanding of field hockey

Responsibilities

Team up with the Head Coach to elevate practices, game strategies, and team culture.
Cultivate athletes' skills, confidence, and character.
Connect with recruits and help UMF attract top-tier student-athlete talent.
Power players’ growth through dynamic training, conditioning, and feedback.
Lead by example, showcasing sportsmanship, integrity, and a championship mindset.
Participates in games and practices, including organization and implementation of daily practices.
Coaches in competition and training.
Prepares film breakdown and analysis; presents analysis to team members.
Plans and prepares for games and training.
Assists in organizing team travel and meals.
Assists with scouting, recruitment, and strategy development.
Supports player and leadership development.
Contributes to the strength and conditioning program, including one-on-one strength, and conditioning work with student-athletes.
Provides support and encouragement to student athletes.
Understands NCAA and North Atlantic Conference (NAC) rules, compliance, and laws.
Ensures the safety and well-being of student-athletes.
Serves as an effective role model for college-age students.
Assists with the day-to-day operations of the Field Hockey program.
Provides effective communication to the head coach.
Collaborates effectively with other Department of Athletics’ team members.
Attends and participates in department trainings.
