The Middle School Counselor will be responsible for exhibiting accurate knowledge of content and pedagogy, as well as understanding students' individual development, special needs, skills, and knowledge. This role involves selecting and using appropriate resources, adhering to Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans, and building coherent lessons, activities, and assessments. The counselor will create a positive and respectful learning environment, manage student behavior effectively, and communicate clearly with students. A key aspect of this role is conferring with parents, guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve student behavioral and academic issues. The counselor will demonstrate high expectations, effective lesson delivery, strong questioning and discussion techniques, and provide timely, consistent feedback. They will utilize assessments during instruction, show flexibility and responsiveness to student learning, and reflect on teaching to improve student achievement. Additionally, the counselor will maintain accurate records, manage classroom equipment and supplies, communicate effectively with families about student progress, and contribute to the professional community through continued growth and professionalism. This role also includes reporting suspected child endangerment, neglect, or abuse, enforcing school policies, attending professional meetings and development sessions, assisting in student supervision in various school settings, and sponsoring extracurricular activities. The counselor will perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or other administrators.
