About The Position

Childpeace Montessori School is seeking an experienced Middle School Classroom Guide to lead our dynamic 7th-8th grade community in Language Arts and Humanities. In this role, you'll create an enriching classroom environment rooted in Montessori principles, guide students' academic and personal growth, and foster meaningful connections between home and school. The position is responsible for designing and implementing curriculum, preparing engaging classroom environments, modeling intellectual curiosity, collaborating with a team of guides, supporting adolescent microeconomy businesses and creative expressions, assessing student progress, advising and supporting student development, managing classroom dynamics, supporting conflict resolution and self-regulation skills, maintaining a sustainable classroom environment, integrating city explorations and real-world learning, co-leading camping trips, supporting student-led community outings, and building supportive home-school partnerships through communication and conferences. Parent education on Montessori philosophy and student development is also a component of this role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • Montessori teacher training or certification (AMI Adolescent training preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years of teaching experience
  • Knowledge of adolescent development and experience working with middle school-aged students
  • Experience leading outdoor education or extended field trips
  • Background Check/Enrollment in the Central Background Registry
  • CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Recognizing & Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect Certification

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement effective and creative curriculum and instruction
  • Prepare engaging classroom environments and plan lessons that meet each student's learning needs
  • Model intellectual curiosity and guide across multiple subject areas with flexibility and passion
  • Collaborate with a dynamic team of middle school guides to create an interdisciplinary curriculum that brings learning alive
  • Collaborate with fellow guides to support adolescents' microeconomy businesses and creative expressions
  • Assess student progress through observation and multiple assessment tools, supporting academic, social, emotional, and physical development
  • Serve as an advisor to approximately 10 adolescents
  • Manage classroom dynamics with clear presentations, positive behavioral supports, and developmentally appropriate expectations
  • Support students in developing conflict resolution, collaboration, and self-regulation skills
  • Maintain a beautiful, organized, and sustainable classroom environment where students take ownership of their space
  • Integrate city explorations and real-world learning into your curriculum, connecting students with community experts
  • Co-lead annual Odyssey (7-10 day) and Spring (5-day) camping trips, creating transformative experiences for students
  • Support student-led community outings and foster responsibility for the world around them
  • Build supportive home-school partnerships through regular communication and advocacy for each student in your advisory group and classes
  • Conduct twice-yearly formal conferences and offer ongoing availability for families
  • Provide parent education on Montessori philosophy and student development
