About The Position

Saint Thomas the Apostle Catholic School is seeking a full-time Middle School English Language Arts teacher beginning August 2026. We are looking for a faith-filled educator who is deeply committed to the Catholic mission of the school and passionate about helping students encounter truth, goodness, and beauty through literature while developing excellence in writing and grammar. The ideal candidate understands education as a dynamic, Christ-centered endeavor and is eager to collaborate closely with a dedicated team of middle school teachers to support the intellectual and spiritual formation of our students.

Requirements

  • Be a practicing Catholic with a strong desire to share their faith with students.
  • Cooperate, contribute, and participate effectively in team meetings.
  • Use data driven instruction to set goals, create action plans, and task appropriate instruction.
  • Have attended or be willing to attend a Virtus session.
  • Bachelor’s degree in English or a related field
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Professional demeanor
  • Ability to complete assignments, grades, assessments in a timely manner
  • Excellent classroom management
  • Valid Michigan teacher certificate or willingness to obtain certification
  • Diocesan Catechist Certification or willingness to obtain certification

Responsibilities

  • Create daily lesson plans and learning activities for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students based on standards.
  • Deliver high-quality, engaging instruction using a variety of proven methods.
  • Consult and plan with the Middle School team on a regular basis.
  • Differentiate lessons as needed to give all students access to the curriculum regardless of ability or instructional level.
  • Evaluate student performance on tasks established by the standards using a variety of methods.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly and supportive classroom by modeling expected behavior and standards, promoting positive interactions and quickly addressing behaviors that are not in line with the school discipline plan.
  • Communicate with parents regarding student progress, potential and behavior.
  • Follow all duties and responsibilities as outlined by the mission, vision, and values of the school and Diocese of Grand Rapids.
