We are seeking a versatile, highly motivated Middle School Floater Teacher with strong expertise in mathematics to join our growing school community. This role is ideal for an educator who enjoys working across classrooms, building strong relationships with students, and contributing where their expertise can have the greatest impact. The ideal candidate will bring particular strength in middle school mathematics and an enthusiasm for engineering and design thinking. The role will support instruction across the middle school as needed while contributing to our growing STEM and mathematics programs. Requirements

  • Has strong knowledge of middle school mathematics and the ability to make challenging concepts accessible and engaging.
  • Enjoys working with adolescents and understands the unique academic and developmental needs of middle school students.
  • Can confidently step into different classrooms and instructional settings while maintaining consistency, professionalism, and high expectations.
  • Is excited by engineering, innovation, problem-solving, and hands-on learning.
  • Can guide students through a collaborative, interdisciplinary project such as Future City, helping them apply mathematics, science, research, writing, and design.
  • Builds strong relationships with students while maintaining clear classroom expectations and routines.
  • Is collaborative, reflective, flexible, and eager to contribute to a growing school.
  • Sees opportunities rather than limitations and is willing to take initiative beyond a narrowly defined job description.
  • A bachelor’s degree in mathematics, education, engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching or working with middle school students, preferably in mathematics.
  • Strong content knowledge in middle school mathematics and the ability to differentiate instruction for varied learners.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in engineering, STEM, project-based learning, robotics, design thinking, or Future City.
  • Strong classroom management and student engagement skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to adapt quickly while maintaining high standards for teaching and learning.
  • A collaborative mindset and commitment to continuous professional growth.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for helping to build something new.

Nice To Haves

  • A master’s degree is preferred.
  • Teaching credential or equivalent qualifications preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach and support middle school subjects with a focus on mathematics.
  • Provide classroom coverage and instructional support across middle school classes as needed.
  • Develop and deliver engaging, rigorous mathematics instruction aligned with school curriculum and learning goals.
  • Coach and support an after-school competitive Math Club, helping students develop problem-solving strategies, mathematical reasoning, and confidence in preparation for competitions.
  • Design hands-on learning experiences that encourage students to apply mathematical and scientific thinking to authentic problems.
  • Support the Engineering program, including preparation for the Future City competition.
  • Collaborate with teachers and academic leaders to ensure continuity of instruction and student learning.
  • Support lesson planning, assessment, grading, classroom management, and student engagement.
  • Use formative and summative assessment data to monitor student understanding and adjust instruction.
  • Build positive relationships with students that foster curiosity, confidence, academic growth, and personal responsibility.
  • Participate actively in department meetings, professional development, curriculum planning, and schoolwide initiatives.
  • Communicate professionally with colleagues and families to support student success.
  • Contribute ideas and expertise to the continued development of a young and growing school.
