A vacancy exists for a mid day special education bus aide for the Transportation Department. The Driver and the Aide will pick up a student from Tuscarora Elementary and taken home at 11:30 am. This run will be Monday - Friday. Must use a special needs bus. The driver must meet/pick up bus aide first and will drop aide off upon completion of run. This run is subject to change or extend as needed for student needs. The Supervisory Aide assists teachers in the classroom with daily instructional and non-instructional activities. This role involves communicating, collaborating, and cooperating with colleagues, supervisors, and students. The aide assists the teacher in routine classroom operation, demonstrates understanding of the student's disability, and maintains composure under stressful conditions. The aide develops effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community, and communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Duties include preparing bulletin boards, keeping records, writing lessons on the board, and correcting student's work. The aide also loads/unloads wheelchair-bound students on the bus, waits with students for transportation, and manages/instructs small groups of students when the teacher is not available. Additionally, the aide instructs and demonstrates the use of exercise equipment and production machinery, participates in physical activities, and assists students with lifting, feeding, toileting, and changing clothes of special needs students. The aide assists and supervises special needs students in a classroom setting, modifies materials and instructional activities as per IEP and teacher requests, and performs care procedures for students with disabilities, including suctioning, nasogastric insert feeding, and catheterization as needed. Flexibility in schedule and activities is required.
