About The Position

Arcadis is seeking to hire a Mid-level Arborist to join their dynamic team of Engineers and Arborists to work on projects for NYC Parks within the five boroughs of NYC. This position will be expected to work full-time as well as overtime as needed. This position will utilize your technical knowledge and experience to help guide the City’s tree preservation Level 2 Matrix and street tree programs. As you grow with Arcadis, you will become involved with other NYC Parks’ programs, and with other City agencies, all with a focus on the City’s urban forest and other natural systems such as the Staten Island Bluebelt and park restoration projects. As a Mid-Level Arborist, you will play a key role in the stewardship and management of the urban forest. You will ensure high standards of arboricultural practice, provide mentorship to junior staff, and support the City’s sustainability and biodiversity goals. Having a personal vehicle for this role is strongly encouraged.

Requirements

  • Proficient in reading and interpreting design plans, specifications, and shop drawing submittals.
  • Strong attention to detail with a solid work ethic and ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including dispute resolution and conflict management.
  • Willingness to work overtime as required by project demands.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and best practices in arboriculture.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry, Forest Biology or Environmental Resources Engineering or closely related field
  • ISA Arborist Certification; or NJ LTE (Licensed Tree Expert); or ASCA (American Society of Consulting Arborists)

  • 2-5 years of practical experience in tree protection, pruning, installation, and establishment or related work (internships can count towards this requirement)

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining accurate daily records of site activities, tree health, and condition assessments.
  • Reviewing daily reports submitted by inspection personnel, providing constructive feedback and guidance for improvement.
  • Using/learning the city's ForMS program for all assignments, ensuring data integrity and compliance with reporting standards.
  • Representing Arcadis and/or client agencies in meetings and site visits, delivering clear and professional oral and written communications.
  • Acting as an ambassador for the City’s urban forest, fostering positive relationships with residents, contractors, and other City agencies.
  • Monitoring contractor compliance with technical requirements, project specifications, and safety standards.
  • Evaluating contractor responsiveness and effectiveness, escalating issues as necessary.
  • Identifying native and invasive plant species, contributing to biodiversity management strategies.
  • Administering and enforcing all Health & Safety (H&S) procedures as outlined in the owner’s H&S manual.
  • Proactively identifying and mitigating site hazards, promoting a culture of safety among all personnel.
  • Participating in field meetings with contractors and owners to discuss project progress, scheduling, and outstanding work.
  • Providing technical guidance to junior arborists and inspection teams.
  • Supporting program operations through timely and accurate administrative tasks, including documentation, scheduling, and coordination.
