About The Position

Works under minimal supervision to serve as an advanced coding resource and peer leader within the physician revenue cycle. Provides day-to-day operational guidance to coding staff, supports workflow coordination, and reinforces departmental quality, productivity, and compliance standards across professional billing and mid revenue cycle functions. Functions as a subject matter resource for AI-assisted coding validation, documentation integrity, modifier application, incident-to and split/shared billing. Promotes coding accuracy, timeliness, regulatory compliance, and effective AI-enabled revenue cycle operations through peer mentorship, quality reinforcement, and operational problem-solving.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • 5 years of experience in coding and/or billing experience
  • (CPC) CERT PROFESSIONAL CODER or
  • (CCS-P) CERT CODING SPCLST PHY BA or
  • (CMC) CERT MEDICAL CODER or
  • (RHIA) REGD HEALTH INFO ADMINIST or
  • (RHIT) REGD HEALTH INFO TECHNOLO or
  • (CCS) CERT CODING SPECIALIST or
  • (CPMA) Cert Prof Medical Auditor

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a trusted subject matter resource who has provided peer guidance, identified workflow inefficiencies, and contributed to operational and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Experience coding moderate to high-complexity specialties and procedures requiring advanced bundling, modifier logic, and payer-specific rule application.
  • Progressive professional billing and coding experience and advanced technical proficiency.
  • Experience in academic medical centers, multi-specialty physician groups, or complex ambulatory environments.
  • Experience resolving charge review edits and back-end coding denials, including root-cause analysis and collaboration with providers and operational leaders.
  • Experience supporting revenue integrity initiatives, compliance auditing, clinical documentation improvement (CDI), or operational performance improvement efforts.
  • Experience working independently in a fast-paced, metric-driven, AI-enabled environment managing multiple work queues and shifting specialty assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a day-to-day resource for Coding and Billing Specialists by providing guidance, modeling best practices, and offering informal peer coaching; supports onboarding and training to reinforce workflows, documentation standards, and performance expectations; and facilitates communication of updates, gathers staff feedback and escalates operational concerns to leadership.
  • Identifies workflow inefficiencies, documentation gaps, denial trends, and AI-related exception patterns impacting productivity, reimbursement, or compliance; drives resolution, escalates high-risk issues, and provides recommendations to leadership.
  • Reviews, codes, and resolves cases within Charge Review Escalation work queues and assists in resolving routine to complex coding and billing issues.
  • Identifies high-opportunity service lines for AI automation within mid-revenue cycle operations and contributes to automation strategy development.
  • Contributes to development of decision logic and leads testing and validation of AI-coding assisted solutions, including Epic enhancements and third-party technologies.
  • Monitors and optimizes AI-assisted coding workflows and performance by analyzing exception trends and output accuracy.
  • Leads implementation of AI-enabled workflows, including defining success metrics and exception handling processes to ensure accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency and collaborates with stakeholders to drive continuous improvement.
  • Supports internal and external audits by providing documentation clarification, coding rationale, and operational insight.
  • Collaborates with Revenue Integrity, CDI, Compliance, Clinical Departments, and other stakeholders to resolve documentation and coding issues affecting reimbursement and regulatory compliance.
  • Adheres to all organizational policies, compliance standards, data security requirements, and performance expectations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
