Microsoft Dynamics 365 Technical Consultant / Developer

Huron Consulting Services•Chicago, IL

About The Position

The Senior Associate Microsoft Dynamics 365 Technical Consultant / Developer designs, builds, tests, deploys, and supports technical solutions for Dynamics 365 Finance & Supply Chain Management. The role translates functional and business requirements into maintainable technical components, including extensions, integrations, data migration assets, reports, workflow automation, and AI-enabled features. It is a delivery leadership role at the work-package level, not an architect or people-manager position. The Senior Associate owns assigned technical scope and documentation through completion, determines how to use available resources, guides junior team members, and makes fact-based recommendations to project and practice leadership. The role focuses on secure, maintainable, testable Dynamics 365 solutions that meet documented acceptance criteria and use extension-first design practices. It owns a defined technical work package from clarification and design through build, testing, defect resolution, deployment support, and knowledge transfer. The consultant communicates technical scope, dependencies, options, risks, and trade-offs to functional consultants, client technical teams, and engagement leadership, while maintaining delivery documentation and escalating issues when needed. The position collaborates with clients and project teams on development and extensibility, integrations, data and reporting, Power Platform and AI solutions, DevOps and lifecycle management, and delivery. Work may include X++ development; Azure and Microsoft platform services; quality and release processes; cutover, hypercare, troubleshooting, and transition to support teams; and client-facing demonstrations, training, and knowledge transfer. Living locations are flexible across the United States or Canada.

  • Experience contributing to at least two full-lifecycle ERP implementations, upgrades, rollouts, or major enhancement programs, with ownership of technical deliverables.
  • Hands-on X++ development experience and working knowledge of Dynamics 365 extensibility, data entities, security, reporting, integrations, deployment, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience producing technical specifications, code, test evidence, deployment documentation, and knowledge-transfer materials in a structured delivery methodology.
  • Ability to work independently with occasional assistance, lead a small technical work package, and coach junior resources.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop X++ extensions, Chain of Command implementations, event handlers, batch processes, data entities, forms, reports, workflows, and other custom Dynamics 365 F&SCM components.
  • Apply Microsoft-supported extensibility patterns and extension-first principles; document design rationale and upgrade considerations.
  • Develop medium-to-complex components, perform unit testing, participate in peer reviews, remediate defects, and support regression testing.

  • Develop or support SSRS, Electronic Reporting, Power BI, and Microsoft Fabric-connected reporting solutions aligned with the solution architecture.
  • Document interface contracts, field mappings, dependencies, exception handling, monitoring, and operational support requirements.
  • Build Power Apps, Power Automate flows, Dataverse components, and Copilot Studio solutions that extend or connect Dynamics 365 business processes.
  • Implement AI-enabled features and agentic workflows under approved architecture, including tool calls, retrieval, workflow steps, guardrails, human review points, logging, and escalation paths.
  • Use approved AI-assisted development tools responsibly and validate outputs while protecting client and firm data.
  • Identify opportunities to improve delivery through automation, reusable patterns, automated testing support, and documentation generation while maintaining engineering judgment and governance.
  • Use Azure DevOps or GitHub source control, branching, pull requests, build and release pipelines, and deployment controls aligned with project standards.
  • Drive quality through coding standards, peer review, unit and integration testing, security validation, performance considerations, traceability, and release readiness.
  • Support Dynamics 365 environment and release activities through Power Platform Admin Center and Lifecycle Services where applicable, including deployable packages and post-deployment validation.
  • Support cutover planning and execution, production readiness, hypercare, incident troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and transition to support teams.
  • Articulate technical scope for integrations, conversions, reports, extensions, and other custom objects, and complete supporting documentation.
  • Define and own technical project tasks, allocate work within a small work package, validate required skills, and provide status and risk feedback to project leadership.
  • Partner with functional consultants to understand business processes and create technical designs aligned with client needs and project architecture.
  • Prepare technical specifications, process flows, design documents, test plans, deployment notes, support guides, and knowledge-transfer materials.
  • Deliver client-facing demonstrations, design walkthroughs, training, and knowledge transfer appropriate to the assigned workstream.
  • Own a technical work package from clarification and design through build, test, defect resolution, deployment support, and knowledge transfer.
  • Maintain accurate RAID and delivery documentation, anticipate issues, and escalate when architecture, scope, quality, security, or timeline decisions are required.
  • Conduct code walkthroughs, share reusable patterns, and coach Analysts, Senior Analysts, and Associates.
