About The Position

The Safety Codes Council is an independent regulatory body established under Alberta’s Safety Codes Act. The People & Technology area enables the Council’s people, services, and operations through technology, digital innovation, service excellence, and continuous improvement. The Product Delivery team helps turn user needs, operational challenges, and service opportunities into practical digital solutions that are secure, sustainable, and useful. This is a full-time, 12-month term position providing leave coverage, with the possibility of extension. The Microsoft 365 & Power Platform Specialist is responsible for the product stewardship and evolution of the Council’s Microsoft 365 collaboration and productivity ecosystem, as well as the delivery of business solutions using Microsoft Power Platform. This role sits at the intersection of technology, employee experience, service delivery, and business value. It works across the organization to understand user needs, clarify problems worth solving, improve collaboration, automate processes, strengthen digital adoption, and ensure Microsoft technologies are designed, delivered, measured, and improved in a secure, sustainable, and user-centred way. The role is expected to be approximately 40% focused on managing and evolving Microsoft 365 products and services, including Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Planner, Microsoft Lists, Copilot for Microsoft 365, and related collaboration capabilities. It is expected to be approximately 60% focused on designing, building, testing, deploying, and supporting business solutions, automations, applications, reports, and insights using Power Platform technologies.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Development, Business Technology, Digital Transformation, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and directly related experience may be considered.
  • At least three years of progressively responsible experience in a related role.
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Power Platform or comparable low-code platforms and Microsoft 365 products and services.
  • Experience working with people across an organization to understand business needs, gather requirements, design solutions, support adoption, and improve user experience.
  • Experience applying governance, documentation, testing, deployment, and support practices to digital solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 collaboration, productivity, and digital workplace capabilities.
  • Knowledge of Power Platform development, automation, reporting, data, integration, and support practices.
  • Comfort applying product management, service design, user-centred design, adoption, and continuous improvement principles.
  • Understanding of security, privacy, accessibility, information management, governance, and documentation practices.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, solve problems practically, build strong working relationships, and use emerging technologies, including AI-enabled tools, responsibly and with sound judgment.

Nice To Haves

  • Microsoft certifications related to Power Platform, Microsoft 365, Azure, Copilot, security, data, or solution architecture
  • Education, coursework, or certification in product management, service design, agile delivery, business analysis, process improvement, accessibility, privacy, or information management
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure services, custom connectors, APIs, Logic Apps, Functions, or other integration approaches

  • Experience with service design, product-led operating models, agile delivery practices, process mapping, customer or employee journey mapping, change adoption, or continuous improvement

Responsibilities

  • Steward Microsoft 365 products and services, including Teams, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Planner, Microsoft Lists, Copilot for Microsoft 365, and related digital workplace capabilities.
  • Monitor Microsoft roadmap updates, feature releases, usage patterns, adoption opportunities, risks, dependencies, and improvement priorities.
  • Partner with others across the Council to improve collaboration, information sharing, document management, and modern digital workplace practices.
  • Design, build, test, deploy, and support business solutions using Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse, Power BI, Copilot Studio, AI Builder, SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, Planner, and related Microsoft technologies.
  • Translate business needs, process pain points, and user feedback into practical, scalable, maintainable, secure, accessible, and user-centred low-code solutions.
  • Use iterative delivery practices to test ideas early, incorporate feedback, improve solution quality, and support solutions after release.
  • Clarify the problem each solution or enhancement is intended to solve, who experiences the problem, what value should be created, and how success will be understood.
  • Use feedback, analytics, usage data, service patterns, and insight from people across the Council to identify friction points, recurring issues, improvement opportunities, and areas where technology can reduce unnecessary effort.
  • Apply and support approved governance, security, privacy, accessibility, information management, environment, and architecture standards for Microsoft 365 and Power Platform solutions.
  • Collaborate with Technology colleagues to align solutions with enterprise architecture, environment strategy, licensing practices, data governance, records management, privacy, and security requirements.
  • Support Application Lifecycle Management practices, including solution packaging, versioning, testing, release coordination, deployment documentation, and support transition.
  • Develop practical training resources, guides, communications, demonstrations, and enablement materials that help employees adopt Microsoft 365, Copilot, and Power Platform solutions effectively.
  • Facilitate workshops, discovery conversations, demos, feedback sessions, requirements discussions, and user support activities with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Help identify adoption barriers and work with others to address gaps in knowledge, process, configuration, governance, accessibility, or support.
