About The Position

Designs, develops, and implements testing methods and equipment. Plans and arranges the labor, schedules, and equipment required for testing and evaluating standard and special devices. Provides test area with parameters for sample testing and specifies tests to be performed. Compiles data and defines changes required in testing equipment, testing procedures, manufacturing processes, or new testing requirements. Responsible for testing all customer samples and for special tests that cannot be performed in the test area. Carrier Refueling and Complex Overhaul (RCOH) Work Control - experienced in development and execution of Navy Work Authorization Forms (WAFs) and safety tag-out documents and specifications to support efficient work execution. Ensure training and qualification on all work control and tag-out processes is obtained and maintained. Approves issuance of WAFs, Work Permits, and Safety Tag-outs for assigned systems. Provides expertise in the development, planning, and scheduling for WAFs, WPs, and Safety Tag-out. Provides on-site resolution of related problems and technical issues to prevent delays and ensure the integrity, safe work and testing, and operation of responsible areas of control. Thorough knowledge of Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual, and the Tag-out Users Manual.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or the required certification and 6 years of relevant professional/exempt experience.
  • Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • The required certifications must be Lead Test Engineer (LTE), Shift Test Engineer (STE), Ship Safety Officer (SSO).
  • Inactivation Test Engineer (ITE) certification, or Shift Refueling Engineer (SRE).
  • Thorough knowledge of Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual, and the Tag-out Users Manual.

Nice To Haves

  • Lead Test Engineer (LTE), Shift Test Engineer (STE).
  • Inactivation Test Engineer (ITE) certification, or Shift Refueling Engineer (SRE).
  • Knowledgeable and experience with Work Control Processes and be familiar with Q-1098 – Work Control Process for Aircraft Carriers and Q-1098.2 – Instructions for In-Service Aircraft Carrier Work Control Process.
