Responsibilities: Manages a team that designs, develops, tests, debugs, and implements software that supports the operation of LLE’s world class Omega Laser Facility, research laboratories, and associated laboratory equipment. Determines systems software design requirements. Ensures that system improvements are successfully implemented and monitored to increase efficiency. Generates systems software engineering policies, standards, and procedures. Assures adherence to existing security, compliance, and regulatory requirements. Participates in all aspects of software development, from detailed programming to high-level system design. Oversees the performance and results of a team within own discipline or function. Adapts departmental plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges. Provides technical guidance to employees, colleagues, and/or customers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides day-to-day oversight of the respective Lines of Business (LOBs).
Assists leadership in allocating personnel and manages and/or assigns team resources.
Contributes to a world-class research organization, assisting in continuous process improvement initiatives and refinement of service offerings.
Leads the team in creating and adopting architectural patterns and software engineering best practices while holding the team accountable for those same standards.
Manages the full software development lifecycle, including planning, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance.
Ensures adherence to software engineering best practices, coding standards, and architectural patterns.
Works with cross-functional teams, including product management, IT, and academic departments, to define technical requirements and deliver solutions.
Oversees the integration of new software applications and enhancements to existing systems.
Participates in project, manage risks, and ensure successful project completion.
Works closely with product management to ensure alignment between business goals and technical execution.
Partners with internal department operations and other departments to ensure seamless integration and deployment of software products.
Communicates effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring clarity on goals, challenges, and progress.
Identifies emerging technologies, industry trends, and innovative practices that can be integrated into the organization’s software development processes.
Empowers teams to think beyond traditional approaches, embrace continuous improvement, and iterate quickly while maintaining high standards of quality and performance.
Champions initiatives that support collaboration, knowledge sharing, and mentorship, creating an environment where engineers feel inspired.
Encourages creative problem-solving and experimentation and, in turn, drives the development of cutting-edge solutions.
Run an On-Call rotation and serves as escalation and primary communicator to IT Leadership and other executives.
Assists leadership in directing the technical team and coordinates the collection of labor and expense details.
Mains shared responsibility for the uninterrupted operation of the Omega Laser Facility and LLE’s developed software systems.
Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree related discipline such as Computer Science, Business, Data Science, Engineering, Finance, Instructional Technology and 3 years of relevant experience required
• Expertise with technology in the respective area required
• Experience building programs that deliver long term success required
• Ability to learn new technologies quickly required
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as speaking and presentation skills required
• Ability to present technology in non-technical terms and recognize the extent to which a given audience requires this required
• Excellent customer service skills, including the ability to diffuse difficult situations required
• Ability to translate user needs into solution requirements required
• Ability to lead a team to produce valuable results required
• Ability to provide on-call support as necessary required
• Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time and meet required deadlines required

Nice To Haves

• Master's degree preferred
• Previous experience in a supervisory capacity preferred
