About The Position

With more than 11,000 employees, HII’s Ingalls Shipbuilding division is the largest manufacturing employer in Mississippi and a major contributor to the economic growth of Alabama. For nearly 85 years, we’ve designed, built and maintained amphibious ships, destroyers, and cutters for the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Coast Guard. The largest supplier of U.S. Navy surface combatants, we’re simultaneously building four classes of ships and have pioneered the development and production of technologically advanced, highly capable ships for the surface Navy fleet for decades. The Frigate Ship Design Manager reports to the Director of Program Engineering and provides broad program technical direction and manages the associated engineering efforts. Significant interaction with program management and customer organizations supporting the Frigate execution is expected. Requires a broad grasp of the Frigate program and ship design issues and related practices and procedures. Advanced level of understanding in a specialized field or general understanding of several diverse disciplines is necessary.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited school of engineering and 8 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering, and design or equivalent.

Responsibilities

Provides broad program technical direction and manages the associated engineering efforts.
Assure technical adequacy, accuracy, and quality of engineering products developed.
Manage the workload and assignment of personnel under cognizance.
Review and approve all engineering products developed under area of responsibility.
Act as an advisor to subordinate supervisors or staff members to meet schedules or resolve technical or operational problems.
