About The Position

This benchmark is intended to be used by companies that have generic classifications engaged in research and/or product development encompassing primarily one or more of the following engineering disciplines: electronics, electrical, mechanical, and/or chemical.Must HaveBachelor's Degree and 6 years of progressive technical experience in research, engineering and design; Master's Degree and 4 years of relevant experience. Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program. The position being sought is the manager of the Technical Work Definition (TWD) group, responsible for developing and managing Availability Work Packages (AWPs) for all RCOH, carrier fleet support, submarine fleet support, and inactivation contracts within the Nuclear Propulsion Division (NPD). The selected candidate will lead a staff that liaises with various internal and external customers on behalf of NPD for contracted nuclear work performed by NNS. Strong negotiation and communication skills are essential for this role, along with a fundamental understanding of nuclear overhaul technical products and processes. The incumbent must possess comprehensive knowledge of engineering/design processes related to ship systems, a thorough understanding of ship construction processes, and familiarity with company business management principles. Additionally, the candidate should have demonstrated the ability to manage and direct the work of others. This position directly interfaces with various technical engineering groups, NNS contracts and pricing, program offices, finance, and contract management leads from other NPD departments.
