About The Position

Designs, develops, and implements testing methods and equipment. Plans and arranges the labor, schedules, and equipment required for testing and evaluating standard and special devices. Provides test area with parameters for sample testing and specifies tests to be performed. Compiles data and defines changes required in testing equipment, testing procedures, manufacturing processes, or new testing requirements. Responsible for testing all customer samples and for special tests that cannot be performed in the test area. This position is part of the Newport News Shipbuilding Nuclear Reactor Servicing Engineering group, responsible for providing design and engineering support to service Navy nuclear reactors. This position is for a Manager Test Engineering 2 who will be responsible for the Shift Refueling Engineer (SRE) recruitment pipeline of candidates from hire through full SRE qualification. This manager will be responsible to support the Training section and will supervise and mentor candidates through SRE qualification and be a participant in their oral board preparation and qualification. Candidates for this position must be qualified at the Chief Refueling Engineer level in accordance with NAVSEA requirements. Reactor Servicing Engineering is well suited for any engineering discipline to include General Engineering, Mechanical, Structural, Electrical, Systems, Industrial, Nuclear, and others. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or the required certification and 6 years of relevant professional/exempt experience.
  • Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
  • The required certifications must be Lead Test Engineer (LTE), Shift Test Engineer (STE), Ship Safety Officer (SSO). Inactivation Test Engineer (ITE) certification, or Shift Refueling Engineer (SRE).
  • Candidates for this position must be qualified at the Chief Refueling Engineer level in accordance with NAVSEA requirements.
