Military and Family Life Counselors (MFLCs) provide non-medical counseling services to military Service Members and their families. This role is designed to be flexible, supporting a PRN-type schedule where counselors step in as needed across military installations and communities. MFLCs focus on preventative, solution-focused approaches to mental health issues, addressing challenges before they escalate. Counselors may support adults or minors in various settings, including being embedded with military units, supporting families, or working in schools. The role emphasizes enhancing operational readiness and increasing individual and family resiliency. Specific roles may include supporting Special Operations Command (SOCOM) personnel and families, which requires additional clearances due to the sensitive nature of the work. Child and Youth Behavioral (CYB) Counseling involves supporting children, youth, parents, and staff in settings like Child Development Centers and Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) schools.
