About The Position

OptiMIM, a Form Technologies Company, uses state-of-the-art metal injection molding (MIM) technology to create high performing small precision metal components to almost any level of complexity and at virtually any volume. The Metrology Specialist / Supervisor will have significant technical responsibility for various metrology inspection methods & equipment and support high volume production of small, precision-molded metal components by creating, qualifying and implementing measurement processes. This position will provide support for both engineering development and manufacturing operations.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in a technical field (e.g., Mechanical Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Technology) preferred or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a metrology inspection manufacturing environment, preferably with high-volume production of small, precision components.
  • Proficiency in programming and operating CMMs (e.g., OGP, Zeiss, Mitutoyo) using software such as Zone3, PC-DMIS, Calypso, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T (ASME Y14.5), blueprint reading, and dimensional metrology.
  • Experience with gage R&R studies.
  • Ability to set up part on surface plate to datums and take drawing measurements.
  • Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) and statistical analysis.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to supervise others to achieve team goals & objectives.
  • Fine motor skills and prolonged microscope/visual inspection work is expected.
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a manufacturing plant environment, including hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, bump cap and as needed, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.
  • Employees must meet the definition of a "US Person" as defined by ITAR.

Responsibilities

  • Review new product dimensional requirements and recommend the best measurement processes including input on fixture designs. This will include a variety of tools including simple hand tools, custom fixtures, Optical, Vision & touch probe CMM, & visual inspection systems.
  • Create the measurement processes (including CMM programming) for these new products, then carefully evaluate them to ensure that they are accurate, repeatable and practical for use in a production environment.
  • Prepare reports and certifications FAI/production inspection and gage calibration.
  • Complete new product qualification activities including First Article Inspection, GR&R, and capability studies.
  • Support production and QA activities to move production efficiently and disposition problem material effectively. This includes analyzing measurement data/troubleshooting CMM programs, helping to disposition material, and continuously improving measurement procedures.
  • Calibrate, inspect, measure, and test equipment to ensure compliance with published specifications.
  • Maintain primary and/or essential calibration standards.
