About The Position

City of Edinburg in Edinburg, TX is actively seeking a dedicated Meter Reader to perform accurate reading, installation, removal, repair and maintenance of water meters. This role is essential to the city and involves conducting tests of water meters for accuracy and proper functioning, assisting in the repair of water line breaks, and notifying customers of water shut-offs for repairs. The Meter Reader also maintains vehicles, tools, and equipment, completes daily work reports, responds to customer complaints regarding water pressure, leaks, or outages, and maintains good relations with customers, the general public, and City employees. Additionally, the role may involve providing assistance to other divisions within the department and performing maintenance on water meters and replacing damaged meter boxes.

Requirements

• High school diploma, GED or equivalency
• No experience required
• Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety.
• Achieve TCEQ Class "D" Water Distribution License within first (1) year of employment.
• Achieve TCEQ Class "C" Water Distribution License within three (3) years of employment.
• Excellent knowledge of water meters.
• Proficient in power tools.
• Dependability.

Nice To Haves

• Preferred TCEQ Class "C" or higher Water Distribution License.

Responsibilities

• Perform accurate reading, installation, removal, repair and maintenance of water meters.
• Conduct tests of water meters for accuracy and proper functioning.
• Assist in repair of water line breaks.
• Notify customers when water will be off for repairs.
• Maintain vehicles, tools and equipment.
• Complete daily work reports and records.
• Respond to customer complaints of low pressure, no water and meter leaks.

• Provide assistance and support to other divisions within the department as needed.
• Perform maintenance of water meters.
• Replace damaged meter boxes.
