About The Position

Records gas consumption data from residential, industrial, and commercial customers using an electronic remote reading device mounted in a company vehicle. This role is responsible for uploading data for marketers to use for customer billing. The position also involves performing installations and programming of ERTs, basic tasks such as using hand tools, corrosion inspections, meter painting, and reading meters manually and electronically. This is a bargaining unit position (IBEW Local 1997).

Requirements

• Must have keen senses of smell, hearing, vision and color identification.
• Ability to work in all types of terrain, around animals, and weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Downloads meter reading route(s) daily and enters route information into electronic data collection units in the vehicle.
• Drives the assigned route and collects data from Encoder Receiver Transmitter (ERTs) mounted on customers’ meters.
• Uploads collected data at the end of the route.
• Maintains and regularly updates electronic equipment (handhelds, Mobile Collectors, etc.) to ensure accurate readings.
• Troubleshoots ERT problems and addresses missed meters by inspecting, reprogramming, repairing, maintaining, removing, and reinstalling ERTs and indexes.
• Enters change data into the Meter History System (MHS) and Georgia Customer Management Application (GCMA).
• Efficiently works through the assigned work-order route to complete orders in a timely manner and in accordance with company policies, procedures, and operator qualifications.
• Conducts investigations of high bill complaints, stop meters, and special readings through meter reading validation.
• Performs regular meter inspections and paints.
• Ensures the company truck is stocked with equipment, supplies, and tools in a neat and orderly condition.
• Observes all safety equipment and regulatory guidelines to ensure compliance.
• Safely operates company-assigned vehicles in the performance of assignments.
• Engages in occasional face-to-face interaction with customers via phone to obtain information and answer questions.
• Identifies and resolves problems concerning customers assigned to the wrong route, converts non-ERT meters to the ERT system, updates systems, and corrects problems.
• Performs other duties as assigned on occasion.
