About The Position

Install and maintain self-contained electric meters energized up to 240 volts in the shop and on customer premises. This role involves testing, programming, and repairing meters, as well as investigating usage irregularities and power quality problems. The position requires working independently under semi-direct supervision and effectively communicating with various stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in electrical/electronic technology or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience of four years.
  • Qualified backgrounds include substation, metering, instrumentation, controls, power systems, or electrical maintenance, with demonstrated hands-on experience in testing, troubleshooting, and working with electrical equipment.
  • State Driver License.
  • Must possess and maintain a medical certification card, if determined to be required by law.
  • Successfully complete the Company's training and qualification program for this position within 24 months of employment, including classroom instruction, written examination, job mentoring, and job performance demonstrations.
  • Work independently under semi-direct supervision in a safe-efficient, and productive manner.
  • Proficiently use computers and applications related to this position.
  • Effectively communicate with other employees, customers, and the general public in a courteous and appropriate manner.
  • Promote a positive image of the Company to customers and the general public.
  • Comply with all aspects of the AEP Corporate Code of Conduct.
  • Successful candidate must live or be willing to relocate within 45 miles of the Minerva Annex Service Center (5001 Westerville Rd. Columbus, Ohio 43229).

Responsibilities

  • Install and maintain self-contained electric meters energized up to 240 volts in the shop and on customer premises.
  • Read meters as required for field order and on schedule for cycle billing.
  • Install, remove, change, disconnect, and reconnect meters.
  • Test single phase, network, and polyphase self-contained meters for proper operation and accuracy.
  • Program meters.
  • Perform Credit and Collections related orders including disconnect and reconnect for non-payment.
  • Investigate irregular usage.
  • Investigate energy diversion.
  • Repair meters, meter sockets, and meter enclosures.
  • Order, receive, ship, store, and inventory meters and associated equipment.
  • Investigate self-contained service power quality problems, install event recorders, neutral testers, and produce reports.
  • Perform work from ladders and elevated platforms.
  • Work overtime as needed including extended daily shifts and weekends.
  • Work late shifts as needed.
  • Report hazards and abnormal conditions.
  • Attend and participate in training as assigned and assist in the training of other employees.
