About The Position

The Meter Electrician teams install and maintain self-contained electric meters in the shop and on customer premises. This role involves reading meters, installing, removing, changing, disconnecting, and reconnecting meters. It also includes testing meters for proper operation and accuracy, programming meters, and performing credit and collections related to orders. The position requires investigating irregular usage and energy diversion, repairing meters and associated equipment, and ordering, receiving, shipping, storing, and inventorying meter-related items. Additionally, Meter Electricians investigate self-contained service power quality problems, install event recorders and neutral testers, and produce reports. They also program, test, and troubleshoot relay controls for capacitors, regulators, and reclosers, and install antennas and radios for smart grid devices. Work may be performed from ladders and elevated platforms.

Requirements

  • Within 24 months of employment, successfully complete the Company's training and qualification program for this position including: classroom instruction; written examination; job mentoring; and job performance demonstrations.
  • Associate’s degree in electrical/electronic technology
  • Valid State Driver's License
  • No work experience required for Meter Electrician C.
  • 24 Months experience as a Meter Electrician C for Meter Electrician B.
  • 24 Months experience as a Meter Electrician B for Meter Electrician A.
  • Proficiently use computers and applications related to this position.
  • Effectively communicate with other employees, customer, and the public in a courteous and appropriate manner.
  • Comply with all aspects of the AEP Corporate Code of Conduct.
  • Report hazards and abnormal conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Read meters as required for field order and on schedule for cycle billing.
  • Install, remove, change, disconnect, and reconnect meters.
  • Test single-phase, network, and polyphase self-contained meters for proper operation and accuracy.
  • Program meters.
  • Perform Credit and Collections related to order including disconnect and reconnect for non-payment.
  • Investigate irregular usage.
  • Investigate energy diversion.
  • Repair meters, meter sockets, and meter enclosures.
  • Order, receive, ship, store, and inventory meter and associated equipment.
  • Investigate self-contained service power quality problems, install event recorders, neutral testers, and produce reports.
  • Program, test, and troubleshoot relay controls for capacitors, regulators, and reclosers.
  • Install antennas and radios for smart grid devices.
  • Perform work from ladders and elevated platforms.
  • Work overtime as needed including extended daily shifts and weekends.
  • Work late shifts as needed.
  • Work independently under semi-direct supervision in a safe-efficient, and productive manner.
  • Proficiently use computers and applications related to this position.
  • Effectively communicate with other employees, customer, and the public in a courteous and appropriate manner.
  • Promote a positive image of the Company to customer and the public.
