About The Position

WFMY-TV Greensboro, a TEGNA station, is seeking a dynamic and engaging Meteorologist to prepare and deliver accurate weather reports on-air and online in a conversational manner. The role gathers and analyzes weather information and alerts local audiences about expected conditions. The Meteorologist contributes across forecasting, graphics, field reporting, and severe weather coverage, reaching viewers on television, online, and social media. The position is part of the WX department and contributes to brainstorming and planning future shows, including coverage of significant weather events and explainers. The ideal candidate is a collaborative team player who embraces new technology and explores new ways to present weather information. A current driver's license and the ability to operate a news-gathering vehicle to and from various locations are required.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology, Geoscience, or Atmospheric Science.
• 1–3 years of on-air meteorology experience.
• Proficiency posting content to websites and social media.
• Computer literacy, including weather and newsroom computer systems.
• Current driver's license and ability to operate a news-gathering vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate and compelling weather forecasts in a multi-platform environment.
• Prepare and deliver severe weather updates, interrupting regular programming when necessary.
• Produce clean, creative, and informative graphics to tell the weather story.
• Fill in on other shifts when necessary.
• Write and report from the field or inside the newsroom.
• Update the website and interact with viewers on social media platforms daily.
• Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
• Make public appearances.
• Participate in brainstorming and planning future shows, including coverage of important weather events and explainers.
