About The Position

WFMY-TV Greensboro in CBS is seeking a dynamic, engaging Meteorologist to prepare and deliver accurate weather reports on-air and online in a conversational manner. The role gathers and analyzes information to alert audiences about weather in their communities. The Meteorologist contributes across the meteorology function, including forecasting, preparing graphics, reporting in the field, and participating in severe weather coverage. They reach audiences on television, online, and social media, and are expected to embrace new technology and explore new ways to present weather stories. As a member of the weather department, the Meteorologist participates in brainstorming and planning future shows, including coverage of significant weather events and explainers. A current driver's license and the ability to operate a news-gathering vehicle to and from various locations are required.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology, Geoscience, or Atmospheric Science.
• 1–3 years of on-air meteorology experience.
• Proficiency posting content to various websites and social media platforms.
• Computer literacy, including familiarity with weather and newsroom computer systems.
• Current driver's license and ability to operate a news-gathering vehicle to and from various locations.

Responsibilities

• Provide accurate and compelling weather forecasts in a multi-platform environment.
• Prepare and deliver severe weather updates, interrupting regular programming as necessary.
• Produce clean, creative, and informative graphics to tell the weather story.
• Fill in on other shifts when necessary.
• Write and report from the field or inside the newsroom.
• Update the website and interact with viewers on social media platforms daily.
• Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
• Make public appearances.
• Participate in brainstorming and planning for future shows, including important weather events and explainers.
