About The Position

The Metal Processor is responsible for identifying, sorting, cleaning, and sizing scrap metals for efficient use in melting processes for the TiAl team. This role supplies melting areas with cleaned, identified alloys and processes vacuum and air melted ingots. The primary objectives include accurate classification and separation of metal scraps, cutting and processing metals into specified sizes, and maintaining safe work practices. The position also involves completing logs and records, meeting production and quality standards, and cleaning work areas.

Requirements

  • Ability to read logs and procedure instructions.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations. (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of foundry operations as demonstrated by six months experience in the foundry or cleaning areas is preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of classroom training and work experience.

Responsibilities

  • Receives metal parts/gates from casting and backend operations.
  • Classifies all metal using a variety of visual methods including: gating systems, color, cutting behavior and spark test.
  • Classifies all metal using a variety of electronic methods (LSBO only), including spectrotest analyzer, Kevex analyzer and magnetic permeability.
  • Processes metal using either gas torch and wheelabrators at TBO or abrasive saw, wheelabrator plasma arc or air arc torch at LSBO.
  • Cuts, cleans and processes air and vacuum melted ingots. (LSBO only)
  • Cleans metal through wheelabrating.
  • Sizes and cuts scrap returns for best charge loading; TBO tests for radioactivity and prepares for shipment to outside reprocessor.
  • Processes and recycles junk scrap metal for outside sale.
  • Completes logs and records.
  • Adheres to plant and department safety rules.
  • Safely operates all equipment and tools.
  • Identifies and reports safety problems.
  • Meets all production and quality standards.
  • Cleans work areas; performs minor maintenance on equipment.
  • Performs other tasks as directed.
