About The Position

The Operations Technician I, Finishing performs various operations including but not limited to grinding, buffing, trimming, and chemical treatment on parts to achieve the required surface dimension and finish. This role involves operating auto and manual cleaning and passivation lines, laser marking equipment, and performing product cleaning and visual inspection. Additionally, the technician will perform cleaning operations of castings using various sandblast equipment per tech card, and inspect and maintain blast cabinets, media, nozzles, and hoses. The position requires using conventional belting equipment for specific belting operations and handheld tools for grinding, deburring, or detailing confined areas. Selecting, aligning, and securing holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines is also part of the role. The technician will determine the proper media and machine settings based on engineering drawings and work instructions, and complete necessary documentation. Safe transportation of product using hand trucks, pallet jacks, carts, and tables is expected. Maintaining a clean and organized work area, tools, and equipment is crucial. The role also includes detecting and reporting faulty equipment, defective material, and unusual conditions to the supervisor. Supporting Lean Manufacturing and EHS initiatives, performing dimensional inspections using various tools, and completing weekly housekeeping per the 5S schedule are also key responsibilities. The technician will follow work orders, reinforce safety expectations, ensure safe operating practices are demonstrated, and report issues/concerns to the Supervisor. Adhering to all procedures, work instructions, and forms per the Quality Management Systems (QMS) is essential for supporting quality and compliance, along with completing all required training.

Responsibilities

  • Operate auto and manual cleaning and passivation line.
  • Operate laser marking equipment.
  • Perform product cleaning and visual inspection.
  • Perform cleaning operations of castings using various sandblast equipment per tech card.
  • Inspect and maintain blast cabinets, media, nozzles and hoses in order to ensure proper cleaning.
  • Use conventional belting equipment for the specific belting operations based on the information on engineering drawings, ex. Fiber-wheel finish and/or Satin finish.
  • Use air and/or electric handheld tools for specific grinding, deburring, or detailing an area on a part that is usually confined or the inside diameter of a cylindrical part.
  • Select, align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials on machines.
  • Determine proper media to be used based on the information taken from the engineering drawings and/or the work instructions and the proper machine and machine settings.
  • Complete proper documentation as required including process routing card, salvage router and scrap forms.
  • Use hand truck, pallet jack, carts and tables to safely transport product.
  • Maintain work area, tools and equipment in a clean and organized condition.
  • Detect and report faulty equipment, defective material and any unusual conditions to the department Supervisor or Lead.
  • Follow designated safety rules and regulations.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing and EHS initiatives.
  • Dimensionally inspect work, using appropriate tools including, but not limited to; calipers, comparators, pin gauges, measuring instruments and surface plates, etc. as required.
  • Perform weekly housekeeping per 5S schedule.
  • Follow work orders to perform operations on various parts and products.
  • Reinforces safety expectations.
  • Ensures safety operating practices are demonstrated.
  • Reports issues/concerns to Supervisor.
  • Support quality and compliance by adhering to all procedures, work instructions, and forms per the Quality Management Systems (QMS).
