About The Position

Dorchester County Public Schools is seeking Mentor Development Specialists to support new teachers. Working under the Coordinator of Educator Growth and Development, the successful candidate will serve as a mentor and district liaison, supporting first, second, and third-year non-tenured teachers. This role is crucial for strengthening new teacher induction, improving teacher effectiveness, and increasing retention. The position requires leadership and decision-making skills. It is an hourly position funded through the Title IIA grant, with a maximum of 22 hours per week, and does not include benefits beyond salary.

Requirements

  • Has obtained, or is eligible for, a Maryland Advanced Professional License.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience at the appropriate level.
  • Knowledge of current trends in education including the Maryland College and Career Standards.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional growth.
  • Knowledge of the instructional improvement process.
  • Knowledge of mentoring strategies.
  • Excellent human relations skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in educational technology and data-driven instruction.

Responsibilities

  • Train and support teachers in instructional strategies, classroom management, and curriculum alignment.
  • Model effective teaching practices and behavior intervention strategies.
  • Complete professional development in mentoring and implement mentoring models with assigned teachers.
  • Collaborate with site administrators and district leaders to align mentoring efforts with school and district goals.
  • Facilitate professional development for new teachers.
  • Serve as a mentor to first, second, and third year non-tenured teachers.
  • Assist with planning and implementation of the New Teacher Academy and seminar courses.
  • Communicate regularly with the Coordinator of Educator Growth and Development.
  • Prepare and distribute materials to support mentoring and induction programs.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all mentoring relationships.
  • Maintain accurate time sheets and program related records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Salary based on the Negotiated Agreement Between The Board of Education of Dorchester County and The Dorchester Educators - Teachers bargaining unit.
  • Hourly rate of $35.00 an hour.
  • No benefits other than salary for this position.
