About The Position

The Art Therapist role within the UH Cleveland Medical Center offers a unique chance to become part of a dynamic, collaborative interdisciplinary team. This position adds value to patient care and significantly assists individuals with various issues. We currently offer an opportunity for a Full Time Days, Art Therapist to support adult patients and families in Cleveland. This is a grant-funded position: current funding will last through mid-2028 and is in the process of future renewals.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Art Therapy (Required) or Bachelor's Degree Degree in Art Therapy with master’s in related field. (Required)
  • Thorough knowledge of Art therapy process and practice, allowing for appropriate care of adult patients and their caregivers/families. (Required proficiency)
  • Knowledge of both group and individual therapy skills. (Required proficiency)
  • Demonstrates proficiency in a variety of visual artistic media and art therapy interventions for a diverse patient and family base. (Required proficiency)
  • Able to summarize and write art therapy session notes in a professional manner. (Required proficiency)
  • Demonstrates knowledge of psychosocial and physical dysfunction, including adaptations of equipment and materials to meet patient needs. (Required proficiency)
  • Demonstrates knowledge of art therapy ethics and code of conduct. (Required proficiency)
  • 1 year completion of Art Therapy practicums from accredited university (Required).
  • Registered Art Therapist and/or Board Certified in the State of Ohio (Required) (or soon to be licensed)

Nice To Haves

  • At least one year of on-the-job experience (Strongly Preferred)
  • Previous experience is strongly preferred.
  • The position will float between all units of the hospital and will involve developing and facilitating programming for these patients.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains professional behavior and UH core qualities.
  • Provides appropriate patient and family focused, relationship-based care following American Art Therapy Association standards of care (assess needs, implement, and evaluate art therapy interventions and document outcomes).
  • Collaborates and communicates with the healthcare team to deliver patient and family care.
  • Participates in trainings, team meetings, rounds as appropriate to function as a team-member and uphold the AT/MT Department and UH system missions. This may also include supervision of graduate interns.
  • Takes responsibility for self-development and supports a learning environment (attends professional development opportunities, keeps up to date with relevant research and publications, continuing education).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
