Mental Health Worker - Psych Acute
About The Position
This position provides direct patient care under the supervision of licensed nursing staff. Responsibilities include assisting with activities of daily living, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and functioning as part of the interdisciplinary care team. The role involves both inpatient and outpatient settings, with specific duties tailored to each. For the inpatient role, the Mental Health Worker assists the RN, LVN, or Charge RN in providing and documenting patient care, supporting unit functions, and performing basic nursing care for adult and geriatric patients. For the outpatient role, the Mental Health Worker, under the supervision of the Director of Nursing, RN, and Program Director, carries out the activities of daily living program and individual treatment plans for psychiatric patients.
Requirements
- Current and valid license as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) issued by the State, if applicable.
- If not a CNA, a minimum of one year of experience working as a Mental Health Worker in a hospital setting.
- BLS certification within 30 days of hire and maintain current.
Nice To Haves
- One (1) year prior mental health experience preferred.
- Familiarity with medical and psychological terminology preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assist licensed nursing staff in providing and documenting patient care, including assistance with activities of daily living.
- Support unit functions and maintain a safe and clean environment for patients, visitors, and co-workers.
- Function as an integral part of the interdisciplinary care team and communicate pertinent patient information to the supervising RN.
- Perform clerical duties as assigned.
- Provide basic nursing care for adult and geriatric patients.
- Perform responsibilities within the guidelines of the Nursing Structure Standards, Hospital/Nursing Policy, and state regulatory and accrediting requirements.
- Carry out activities of daily living program and individual treatment plans for psychiatric patients in an outpatient setting.
