About The Position

The Mental Health Worker will be part of a multidisciplinary team within the Anxiety Treatment and Research Clinic (ATRC). The primary responsibility is to deliver and support virtual psychotherapy services, in partnership with St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton (SJHH) and the Government of Nunavut, for individuals with mental health and addictions concerns. The role also supports clinical services within the ATRC.

Requirements

Degree in Nursing (RN), Social Work, Occupational Therapy, or a related health or social science field (e.g., Psychology), or registration in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario with a health-related degree
Current registration and good standing with the relevant regulatory college (e.g., College of Nurses of Ontario, Ontario College of Social Workers & Social Service Workers, College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario, or College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario)
Minimum 5 years of experience in a mental health and/or addictions setting
Strong knowledge of mental health and addictions, including assessment, care planning, supportive counselling, and system navigation
Expertise in risk and crisis assessment, intervention, and safety planning
Proficiency in cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
Ability to conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments and apply evidence-based practices to clinical care and program development
Knowledge of the impact of systemic racism on Indigenous peoples and access to care
Demonstrated experience providing culturally informed care to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis clients
Understanding of the historical and contemporary contexts impacting Indigenous mental health
Ability to engage individuals who may be reluctant to seek support
Strong communication (verbal and written) and conflict resolution skills
Recovery-oriented, client-centred approach to care
Working knowledge of relevant legislation (e.g., Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act, Substitute Decisions Act, privacy legislation)
Commitment to maintaining competency and ongoing professional development
Participation in professional organizations relevant to area of expertise

Responsibilities

Provide virtual psychotherapy services to Indigenous clients in collaboration with provincial and territorial partners
Conduct risk assessments and provide crisis support as needed
Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in accordance with organizational standards
Maintain current knowledge of mental health and addictions best practices
Contribute to program evaluation, research, and quality improvement initiatives
Collaborate with health and social service partners to address service gaps and support system planning
Build therapeutic relationships with clients and families to support recovery goals
Participate in team meetings, committees, accreditation activities, and program development initiatives
Coordinate care with providers within the circle of care to ensure integrated, client-centred services
Support a collaborative team environment that values learning, innovation, and continuous improvement
Provide clinical teaching, mentoring, and supervision to students and contribute to interprofessional education
